Big and Brassy was set up by Ray and Linda Somers in 2017 to bring 8 small, non-competing bands together for a weekend of music making and to raise money for charity. Its huge success led to the continuation of the project.
In 2018 Brass for Africa was chosen as the resident music charity and the bands were able to donate not only money, but much needed mouthpieces to support the charity’s mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Africa through Music Education and Life Skills Training
Alan Fernie, Brass for Africa’s Composer in Residence, joined the bands as guest soloist on trombone. In celebration of the Big and Brassy concept, Alan has now written the Big and Brassy March. We hope that the March will inspire you to strengthen, encourage and bring together your own local bands and to support the life-changing work of Brass for Africa.
