Big and Brassy

The massed brass band event that raises funds for local charities

During the Covid years, some members of the Big and Brassy family continued to raise funds for our nominated charities.  As soon as lockdown regulations permitted, small groups began rehearsing in people’s gardens.  In April 2021, one of these groups (which included our Musical Director, Paul Speed) took on the Captain Tom 100 challenge and elected to play 100 tunes in 4 different gardens over the course of the challenge weekend.  This raised over £1000 which was donated, through the Captain Tom Foundation, to The Ripple Pond, which will be one of our nominated charities in 2024.
In September 2021, Isla Pavey and Linda Somers walked the length of Hadrian’s Wall accompanied by 2 musical teddy bears, once again raising in excess of £1000 in sponsorship for Christopher’s Smile. In the few weeks of December 2020 that we were allowed to perform outside, and again in 2021, cold fingers and tired lips played numerous carolling sessions, the proceeds from which were also donated to Christopher’s Smile.
